Medical Unit Manager Harly Lee Surprised with Daisy Leadership Award

Each quarter, Benefis Health System honors a nurse who has gone above and beyond with the Daisy Award. The recipient is selected from a list of nurses nominated by members of the community who have been touched by their work. 

Recently, Manager of Medical Unit Harly Lee was presented with the Daisy Leadership Award by Avant Healthcare Professionals, the staffing organization that connects us with international nurses. This recognition is specifically for nurses in leadership roles who make a positive impact on their organizations, their teams, and the patients they serve. 

Harly was surprised with the award during a recent managers’ meeting attended by a group of Benefis’ international nurses, Avant representatives, Harly’s family and friends, and a full house of system leaders. Avant selected Harly as a recipient of the award because of her dedication to helping the international nurses assimilate into our organization and our community.

Harly organized an effort to get warm clothes for some of the nurses from Kenya who arrived during the early days of winter. She also planned get-togethers for the international nurses to attend to help them get to know their colleagues better. 

“This has made a huge impact on the nurses who are coming to a new environment and culture to help them feel appreciated and welcomed,” her nomination letter read. 

There are 14 international nurses working at Benefis. Seven nurses work with Harly on the Medical Unit. There are also two international nurses working on the Surgical Unit, on the Intensive Care Unit, and in the Operating Room, along with one international nurse who works on the Progressive Cardiovascular Unit. 

“You have touched us as a team,” Harly told the group of nurses who attended the presentation. “I am very thankful for all of you.”
