Sletten Cancer Institute
Benefis Sletten Cancer Institute represents a massive philanthropic achievement. Thanks to the thousands of donors who helped raise $8.9 million to establish the institute in 2005, more than 10,000 cancer patients have received advanced, compassionate, whole-person care close to home.
Donors aid through hair loss support, and prosthetics, support groups, and travel support.
Donors make a daily difference for patients through support groups, travel, and a salon. They contributed $1 million in contributions that helped Sletten Cancer Institute purchase the Varian EDGE™ Radiosurgery System, the first in a five-state area. This noninvasive system treats difficult-to-reach tumors and other abnormalities in the brain, spine, and lungs.
Donors took up the torch again for cancer patients through a recent revisioning project to adapt the center for the evolving needs of today’s – and tomorrow’s – cancer patients. The project includes a new teaching kitchen to help patients stay nourished, an expanded genetic counseling program for earlier detection and better prevention, and – now underway – a larger and more comfortable infusion space, as well as an expanded pharmacy for customized drug therapies.
In the battle against cancer, generous donors are vital in bringing the latest treatments to our region. Won’t you help us light the way?
