The Right Care at the Right Time
Each person with cancer is different, and your cancer team at Benefis will use the treatments that work best for you. You may have one or more of these:
- Chemotherapy uses specific drugs that travel through the body and destroy cancer cells. Chemotherapy is also used to keep cancer from growing and spreading.
- Radiation therapy uses beams of intense energy (usually X-rays) to kill cancer cells.
- Hormone therapy lowers the level of hormones some cancers use to grow and spread. This keeps the cancer from returning or limits its growth.
- Immunotherapy uses your immune system to fight cancer. Some types of immunotherapy boost the immune system overall, while others train it to attack specific cancer cells.
- Genetic counseling allows people who have a family history of cancer to learn their risks for developing cancer or passing increased cancer risk to their children. Genetic counseling may involve testing to identify inherited gene mutations.
Medical oncology uses different types of medicine to fight your cancer, this includes chemotherapy, immunotherapy and hormone therapy.
