When Is It An Emergency?
Health problems requiring immediate medical attention include:
- Bleeding that won’t stop
- Pain or pressure in the upper chest or abdomen that lasts at least two minutes
- Any trouble breathing
- Severe pain that develops suddenly
- Confusion, changes in mental state, or trouble awakening or staying awake
- Vision changes
- A fainting spell, weakness, or dizziness that comes on suddenly
- Difficulties with speech
- Blood that occurs with coughing or vomiting
- Ongoing or severe vomiting or diarrhea
- Feelings related to suicide or homicide
If you have these symptoms or others you think are a medical emergency, call 911 right away.
What to Expect
A staff member will assess your condition in the emergency department. Because we treat those with the most serious problems first, you may not receive assistance in the order in which you arrive.
Board-certified providers see those needing the highest levels of care, while experienced nurse practitioners may assist those medical needs that are not urgent.
