Laboratory Services

Our full-service main laboratory is accredited by the Commission on Office Laboratory Accreditation (COLA). With on-site inspections and management of the most scientifically endorsed laboratory standards, our laboratory provides accurate, timely, and cost-effective testing. Benefis' other labs, including those in our urgent care locations, community hospitals, and Helena Specialty Center, are accredited and certified by  Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA) through the state.

Our laboratory covers a broad range of services for both inpatient and outpatient needs, including hematology, coagulation, clinical chemistry, microbiology, molecular microbiology, transfusion medicine, and anatomic pathology. We utilize the Mayo Clinic Laboratory for reference testing when testing is unavailable in our facility.

We conveniently offer five blood draw sites in Great Falls in addition to locations in Helena, Choteau, and Fort Benton.

Preparing for Your Lab

• Appointments are required for paternity tests.
• Please bring your lab order and your insurance card with you to your lab draw.
• If your lab requires fasting, you can continue to drink water and take your required medications unless directed by your physician. The laboratory defines fasting as no food, drinks (water OK), or smoking for 12 hours before the blood is drawn. Candy, gum, mints, and coffee should not be consumed if your labs require fasting.
