Lung Cancer Screening
Get a lung cancer screening at Benefis Health System to reduce your risk of developing lung cancer.
Why You Need a Screening
Studies have shown that individuals ages 55 and older with significant smoking history have a higher risk of developing lung cancer. Screening saves lives by catching cancers early when they are easiest to treat.
Who Should Get a Lung Cancer Screening?
Talk to your primary care doctor about your risk to determine if you should have a screening. If you meet all the following criteria, you may be eligible for a screening:
- You're between the ages of 55 – 80
- You have >30 pack-year smoking history (calculate your history)
- You're a current smoker or quit within the past 15 years
- You don't have current symptoms of lung cancer
What to Expect
Your doctor will use a low-dose computerized tomography (LDCT) to perform your screening. The screening will look at your lungs for signs of lung cancer. The test is quick and painless.
