Occupational Therapy

Helping You Participate in Everything Important to You

(406) 731-8930

Each of us does activities that are essential to everyday life. We dress, eat, and perhaps drive a car. Many of us also work or go to school and participate in hobbies and leisure activities that give our lives meaning and pleasure.

When you need assistance to do these things – perhaps because of injury, physical, or mental illness, or advanced age – the occupational therapy team at Benefis Health is here to help.

Making Things Easier

Our experienced occupational therapists work to reduce barriers and make it easier for you to perform activities that are important to you. Taking into account your needs, goals, and personal strengths, they focus on your well-being and strive to help you function comfortably, safely, and independently.

Occupational therapists offer a wide variety of services. People of all ages, from young children to older adults, may benefit from their assistance.

How Occupational Therapy Makes a Difference

An occupational therapist may help you:

  • Discover new ways of dressing or grooming if paralysis caused by a stroke makes these activities difficult.
  • Obtain and use adaptive equipment if arthritis makes it painful do activities such as opening a jar, for instance.
  • Select toys that will help your child reach developmental milestones.
  • Teach you how to use special equipment such as leg braces or wheelchairs if you have ongoing mobility challenges.
  • Show you new ways of doing activities at work that have caused repetitive motion injuries.
  • Evaluate your workspace and speak with your employer about making changes to your work schedule or environment that will make it easier to function on the job.
  • Assess an older relative’s ability to drive a car – or help the person adjust to using other modes of transportation.
  • Review your home environment to identify fall hazards or make modifications that will help keep you safe.
  • Create a budget for your home or learn how to use public transportation if you’re living with mental illness so you can remain independent.
  • Learn how to care for family members who need assistance.
