Price Transparency

We recognize that when the services you need from Benefis are more than a routine test or office visit, it can be difficult to know what the total cost to you will be.

We believe that Benefis’ charges for services are very competitive in relationship to other Montana hospitals that provide similar services. In the end, however, it's not the hospital charges that matter the most, it's what your financial responsibility is.

Our trained staff can help you sort through these details by producing a cost estimate that takes into account important considerations like what kind of insurance you have, whether you are in or out-of-network, and whether you've met any applicable deductibles. It is also important to note that Benefis has a generous financial assistance program to support those who do not have the means to pay for Essential Medical Services.

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services has instituted a requirement that all hospitals publish their standard charges and negotiated rates in list form.

The charge item files below contain the individual items and services that may be billed when you receive services at a Benefis hospital.

Disclaimer: Detail Charge Item Files

  1. Benefis updates the Detail Charge Item and negotiated rate files at least annually. The information included in each file was current as of the date on the file but is subject to change without notice.
  2. The information in each Detail Charge Item File is for hospital services only. It does not include charges that may be billed by certain physicians or other non-hospital medical services providers.
  3. Charge item numbers included in the file are unique to Benefis and may not be comparable to other hospitals’ lists of detail charges or negotiated rates.
  4. Charge item descriptions are not uniform between hospitals and may not be comparable to other hospitals’ lists.
  5. Hospital services can be very complex, and it is only after services have been provided that a complete and accurate listing of charge items can be assembled for a particular patient encounter. Typically, billing for hospital services will contain several, if not many, charge items.
  6. Charge amounts are based upon the specific facts and circumstances of the care provided to an individual patient, which may take into account factors including, but not limited to: the severity of the patient’s medical condition, the patient's length of stay, and the items and services furnished to the patient.
  7. Charge amounts contained in the file are not indicative of what a patient’s financial responsibility would be for an individual charge item, if it were to be included as part of a billing statement. For example, the hospital charges listed do not include patient-specific insurance deductibles or copayments, potential self-pay, or financial assistance discounts.
